SPOTLIGHT
School Choice

School Choice for the 2018-19 school year is now open and will remain open until June 30th.  If you would like for your child to attend a school that is outside of the attendance area in which you live, you must complete a school choice form.  If possible, please use the online form that can be found on the link below.  If you are unable to complete the online form, a paper copy may be obtained in the school office.  School choice forms are required annually even if your child is currently on school choice.

The following are highlights of the SDOC school choice policy:

  • Only students that reside in Oconee County are eligible for choice.
  • Transportation to a "choice school" is the responsibility of the parents/guardians (no bus service will be provided)
  • Students on school choice must submit an application each year.
  • School Choice is based on behavior, attendance, and grades before approving applications.
  • The completed school choice application is due by or on June 30th.
The school district reserves the right to limit school choice enrollment by grade level or program as staffing or funding requires.  Choice may also be limited by classroom space in the school(s).

Kindergarten Registration - Students must be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2018 to be eligible for Kindergarten (5K).

Please use the link below to pre-register your child for kindergarten (5K) for the 2018-2019 school year. If your child is presently attending a 4K program in the School District of Oconee, you do not need to pre-register the student for kindergarten, since he/she will be included in the Returning Student Registration group that will open in July, 2018.

An email notification will be sent to parents who have pre-registered their student for Kindergarten (5K) when online registration becomes available.

Kindergarten (K5) Pre-Registration

Do you have a child, or know of a child, who will be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2018?  If so he/she may be eligible for 4K (Pre-K) services.  Please schedule a screening appointment for your child by calling 864-886-4503 beginning Monday, January 22, 2018.
Screening dates are April 19, 20, 21, 23, and 24, 2018.  Screenings will be held at Oconee Academy at 177 Razorback Lane, Walhalla, SC 29691.  When you come in for your screening appointment, you will need to bring your child, along with the following:
  • Child's state issued LONG FORM birth certificate
  • Child's Social Security Card
  • Child's Immunization Form or Religious Exemption Certificate
  • Driver's license or identification of the parent(s)/guardian(s)
  • Child's Medicaid Card or Proof of Income for both parents/guardians (This includes step-parents if they assume responsibility).  Preferred proof of income is the 2017 W2 form (pay stubs may be used).
  • Proof of Residency (a utility bill with parent(s)/guardian(s) name and home address or a lease agreement)
  • Legal documents as it pertains to the child (such as custody, court, safety plans, etc.), if applicable
Due to the district's limited number of programs, screening does not ensure a child's placement in a 4K (Pre-K) program.  However, a child cannot be placed in a 4K (Pre-K) program unless he/she is screened.
